課程概述

Course Description:
This course proposes to review some post-Deleuzian accounts of cinematic experience, particularly accounts highlighting such experience as an embodied mode of theoretical intelligence. In addition to the study of cinematic experience, such a review will touch on two wider areas of inquiry: on the one hand the future place of theory in the humanities (to solve puzzles such as how or why theory is “dead” or not quite so), and on the other hand the use of cinematic experience as a good way to refigure common conceptions of digitality, which may point to new possibilities to connect the humanities to the age of digital media in a meaningful way.

課程目標
Course Objectives:
This course attempts to demonstrate the importance of film and associated media in our pondering of possible futures for the humanities. In a broad sense, we show how theoretical approaches can still be useful in answering questions we face today, specifically those posed by new technology and emergent forms of communication. Along the way, we attempt (1) to develop competence in the reading of scholarly materials on the selected topics; (2) to build a theoretical perspective on related issues informed by up-to-date research, and (3) to cultivate the ability to use theoretical knowledge creatively in multidisciplinary contexts.
